HOÀNG THI THI BAND

 

 

The core musicians of the “HOÀNG THI THI” Band are as follows:

HOÀNG THI THI (band leader, keyboardist, pianist)

- Learning piano and playing classical music at age of 4 under his father’s tutelage.
- At age of 7, appeared in many TV shows produced by Mr. Hoang Thi Tho.
- At age of 8, studied piano taught by Mrs. Nguyen Khac Cung and a few years later by Mrs. Pham Thi Lac Nhan.
- At age of 10, admitted to the National Conservatory of Music in Saigon and started playing at the Restaurant/Showroom Maxim’s on weekends.
- At age of 16 in 1974: graduated in 1st Standing from the National Conservatory of Music in Saigon majoring in piano.
- In 1975, immigrated to USA and studied music and majoring in piano at the California State University in Northridge. Self-taught in playing modern music.
- Since 1977, Thi has performed in many Vietnamese night clubs (Rex, Majestic, Ritz, Cathay,…), and shows in Europe, Vietnam, Thailand and various US cities. He has played with many bands, as well as leaded them. He also appeared in many videotapes, and DVDs produced by Paris Ny Night, The Gioi Nghe Thuat, and VoViLed Productions, and played in many audiotapes produced by various Music Productions.

TRUNG NGHĨA (guitarist)

- Nicknamed the “10 Gold Fingers” and self taught in guitar.
- Joined rock bands and performed in many rock concerts at a younger age in Vietnam.
- One of the top Vietnamese guitarists.
- In 1975, immigrated to USA and self taught jazz music and sight reading.
- He was the 1st Vietnamese guitarist working at the 1st Vietnamese club opened in Hollywood in 1975.
- Since 1975, Nghia has performed in many Vietnamese shows in Europe, Vietnam, Thailand and various US cities. He has played with many bands, as well as leaded them. He also played in many audiotapes produced by various Music Productions.
- He was one of the top arrangers in the late 70’s until the 80’s
- Presently, he teaches guitar at a music school in Orange County, CA.

PETER PFIEFER (drummer)

- One of the premier drummers for the Vietmanese music in Orange County, CA.
- He was the 1st American drummer playing and recording Vietnamese music since 1976.
- Performed in many Vietnamese shows in Europe, Vietnam, Thailand and various US cities. He has played with many bands.
- Appeared in many videotapes and DVDs produced by Paris Ny Night, Asia Productions, and played in many audiotapes produced by various Music Productions.
- Presently, he teaches Drums at a music school in Orange County, CA.

LÊ DŨNG (keyboardist)

- His career all started in 1983 when he was 17 years old and joined her first band called the Laser as a keyboardist in Houston, Texas.  They played at a nightclub called the Queen Bee on the weekends and occasionally went on tour.
- After four years of living in Texas, his family decided to move to Orange County, California so that he could pursue her education in engineering.
- In 1987, he later joined her second band called MPX (Minh Phuc/Minh Xuan). Their band played at a nightclub in LA. Two years later, he joined a well-known band called May Bon Phuong and played at a nightclub called the Diamond in Fullerton.
- Seven years later, in 1996, he left the May Bon Phuong band and decided to join his fourth band, the Majestic. During that time, he had an opportunity to play with the band leader named Hoang Thi Thi.
- After 11 years of playing at the Majestic, he decided to concentrate on a full-time job as an engineer and retire from the musician job at the nightclub.  However, he still occasionally go on tours throughout the year with the Hoang Thi Thi band.
